What is your fantasy origin story? (The first fantasy you read)

I think that the first fantasy novel that I read was Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, which was quickly followed by the rest of the series! I love Harry Potter so much – I’m a proud Ravenclaw!

If you could be the hero/heroine in a fantasy novel, who would be the author and what’s one trope you’d insist be in the story?

Ooh this is a tricky one….. I think I’d have to say Ransom Riggs, the author of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

I think that I’d want to have a secret heir trope in the story, as this would add an element of mystery to it (which is another of my favourite genres).

What is a fantasy series you’ve read this year, that you want more people to read?

I haven’t read any fantasy yet this year! But I think that more people should either read Throne of Glass or Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

What is your favourite fantasy subgenre?

I think my favourite fantasy subgenre is dark fantasy, like in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

What subgenre have you not read much from?

I haven’t read any low fantasy – I might see if I can find some low fantasy books to read this year!

Who is one of your auto-buy fantasy authors?

Although I don’t have any auto-buy fantasy authors at the moment, I know that if Ransom Riggs writes a new series, I’ll definitely be buying that!

How do you typically find fantasy recommendations? (Goodreads, Youtube, Podcasts, Instagram..)

Usually, I see fantasies on Twitter, other book blogs, Goodreads, in bookstores or I’m recommended them.

What is an upcoming fantasy release you’re excited for?

I’m really excited for The Desolation of Devil’s Acre, the last book in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children!

What is one misconception about fantasy you would like to lay to rest?

Fantasy isn’t just fairies! 😂

If someone had never read a fantasy before and asked you to recommend the first 3 books that come to mind as places to start, what would those recommendations be?

Harry Potter, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Throne of Glass

Who is the most recent fantasy reading content creator you came across that you’d like to shoutout?

All the fantasy authors – thank you for this amazing genre!!!!

That was such a fun tag to do!

  1. Great post! Thanks for tagging me, this looks so fun. I really enjoyed the first three miss Peregrines home for peculiar children when I read it a few years ago but I have to admit that I didn’t know there was more than three now 😬 I’ll check them out!!

  2. Well, I am not a Ravenclaw. I was placed into Hufflepuff. Growing up I wanted to be in Gryffindor, but after noticing that Newt is a Hufflepuff- didn’t mind being in Hufflepuff. I actually hope to knit a Hufflepuff Knit.

I have read some dark fantasy (I believe). but can only go at a certain level.I have to confess- don’t like Pecicular Children- too creepy.

Only read two fantasy authors this year- Narnia and Howl’s author. Only know the name of Narnia, but not Howl’s.
